Resurrection Mary is a well-known Chicago area ghost story of the "vanishing hitchhiker" type, a type of folklore that is known from many cultures. The urban legend is based outside of Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois, a few miles southwest of Chicago. Resurrection Mary is considered to be Chicago's most famous ghost.
Directed by Sean Michael Beyer. With Kevin G. Schmidt, Pamela Jean Noble, Sally Kirkland, Kristin Herrera. A young man meets a girl who might be a ghost, but matters turn serious when his friends start dying under mysterious circumstances.
Although it had the smallest budget of any movie at the 7th Chicago Horror Film Festival, an international event with submissions from countries like Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Canada, Austrailia and all across the US, "Resurrection Mary" walked away with the big awards of the event, winning "Best Feature Film" and the "Audience Choice Award."
Mary Bregovy had been killed in a traffic accident in 1934, a month before her 21st birthday. She was laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery in her favorite white gown. Over the years, Resurrection Mary has been seen time and time again, at dance clubs, in taxis, and walking outside the cemetery, looking for someone to take her home.
The famous Resurrection Mary, known to be roaming the grounds of Resurrection Cemetery and Archer Avenue in Justice Illinois.
Google 'Chicago's most famous ghost' and every websites says Resurrection Mary. This young apparition has been appearing along Archer Avenue and in the area's most hopping dance halls since the 1930s.
The Resurrection Mary Story. Sources agree that the events surrounding Resurrection Mary began when a young woman in Chicago spent an evening dancing at the old “O Henry Ballroom” (later renamed “the Willowbrook Ballroom”) located along Archer Avenue. For some unknown reason, she left the gathering to walk in the night along the roadway.
The Resurrection Mary story seems to have been messed up by a newspaper report about a decade ago. This pathetic press effort on the story led to a handful of researchers creating their own Mary. This Mary was again tragically killed but apparently has nothing to do with the Resurrection Mary ghost that haunts Archer Avenue.
